Shaymaa Alterkait: A Technology Leader Driving Digital Transformation in Kuwait

Shaymaa Alterkait is a seasoned technology executive with over 20 years of experience in the technology industry. She is passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems and empower people.

Shaymaa’s career has spanned the public and private sectors. She started her own business building websites and applications for small and medium-sized businesses.

In 2010, she joined Microsoft, where she held a variety of leadership roles across the Gulf countries. In these roles, she worked closely with developers, educators, and researchers to help them use Microsoft technology to achieve their goals and reach their potential.

In 2020, Shaymaa joined the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS) as the Information Technology Advisor to the Director General. In this role, she led the PIFSS’s digital transformation journey. She worked with the executive management team to develop and implement a strategic plan that used technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the PIFSS’s operations.

Shaymaa was also a board member of Wafra Real Estate (WRE) and Al-Rawdatain Water Bottling Company. In these roles, she provided strategic guidance on the use of technology to improve the performance of these organizations.

In 2022, she was appointed by an Amiri Decree as a member of the Board of Directors of the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA).

Shaymaa is a strong advocate for women in STEM-D (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and design). She is a mentor to young women pursuing careers in these fields and she is a frequent speaker at events that promote women in STEM and the advancement of technology in Kuwait and the region.

Shaymaa earned a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering and an MBA from London Business School.
